As a tribute to Indian textiles, Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012 has dedicated an entire day to Indian craftsmanship and textiles today.
At the very first Textile Day, veteran designer Deepika Govind will show her collection after a gap of over a decade. Best known for her works of aromatherapy on silks, she developed the ‘cool and wet’ effect on silks.

Hence on a hot summer day, a treated fabric affords coolness amidst stifling humidity.
She’s excited to be here in Mumbai and is presenting her collection, in honour of a textile village in remote Karnataka called Illakal, near the heritage site of Hampi. Incidentally, it was here that indigo dye was rediscovered and manufactured in the same time as Champaner in Gujarat. She says, “It’s truly like the making of a movie. She adds, “Being appreciated here in Mumbai would be an interesting experience for me.”
